Curator's statement

This small curated collection of Shannon’s work grew out of several studio visits and wide-ranging conversations we had with her over the past year. We are pleased to be showing these paintings and new sketches from Shannon’s large body of work that feature her deep respect for animals and her uncanny ability to conjure them as fully themselves even as they navigate our treacherous human context.

I am interested in what we don't see, what we miss as we cast our eyes confidently about our world. Or miss because we are so into our screens and machines, because we are so sheltered in our cars and air-conditioned houses. I am so curious about their lives—the animals’— their concerns, how our behaviors affect their lives.

Studio Address: The actual studio address confuses every GPS in existence, but this will not: You want to head to the intersection of Banner Street and East Ellerbee Street in Durham, NC. Once there, you will be on a quiet gravel road with a large brick church education building. There will be signage for the show on the door.
