At the end of a night of shooting, I returned to the vacant lot where
I had parked my car. I turned on my headlights, and this is the scene
I saw. I quickly realized that this shot, rather than the scenes
I'd been spending the whole evening photographing, was the shot of the
night. I exposed it with an 8x10 view camera, which is why the
center vines can be so crisp while the surrounding scene renders as hazy
and dreamlike.
